The Rajah's Emerald (1934)

“With a serious effort James Bond bent his attention once more on the little yellow book in his hand…” Ian Fleming wasn't the first writer to have a character named James Bond. This short story by the most popular mystery writer of all time predates Fleming's Casino Royale by about two decades. It has been collected in two anthologies of Christie's short stories: The Listerdale Mystery and The Golden Ball and Other Stories.
